นพ.พัฒน์ศมา จบแพทยศาสตร์บัณฑิต วุฒิบัตรผู้เชี่ยวชาญสาขาสูติศาสตร์-นรีเวชวิทยาและวุฒิบัตรผู้เชี่ยวชาญอนุสาขาเวชศาสตร์การเจริญพันธุ์จากคณะแพทยศาสตร์ศิริราชพยาบาล มหาวิททยาลัยมหิดล ประกาศนียบัตรผู้เชี่ยวชาญผ่าตัดผ่านกล้องทางนรีเวช แพทยสภา วุฒิบัตรแพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญสาขาสูติศาสตร์-นรีเวชวิทยาแห่งสหภาพยุโรป (EFOG-EBCOG) และวุฒิบัตรแพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญอนุสาขาเวชศาสตร์การเจริญพันธุ์แห่งสหภาพยุโรป (EFRM-ESHRE/EBCOG) ศึกษาต่อด้านการผ่าตัดผ่านกล้องทางนรีเวชจาก the European Academy of Gynaecological Surgery เมือง​ Leuven ประเทศเบลเยี่ยม ทั้งผ่าตัดผ่านกล้องส่องช่องท้อง (laparoscopic surgery) และผ่าตัดผ่านกล้องส่องโพรงมดลูก (hysteroscopic surgery) 

นอกจากนี้คุณหมอยังได้ปริญญาโทด้าน Clinical Embryology จาก Monash University ประเทศออสเตรเลีย ซึ่งเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยที่มีชื่อเสียงด้านการผลิตนักวิทยาศาสตร์เพาะเลี้ยงตัวอ่อนอันดับต้น ๆ ของโลก นอกจากนี้ยังศึกษาต่อด้านความเป็นผู้นำด้านการดูแลสุขภาพ (Certificate in Southeast Asia Healthcare Leadership Program (HMS-SEAL)) จาก Harvard Medical School ประเทศ​สหรัฐอเมริกา และยังได้ Certificate in AI in Healthcae จาก MIT Sloan ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา หมอพัฒน์ศมาเคยดำรงตำแหน่งหัวหน้าสาขาเวชศาสตร์การเจริญพันธุ์ ภาควิชาสูติศาสตร์-นรีเวชวิทยา คณะแพทยศาสตร์วชิรพยาบาล นอกจากจะเป็นหมอด้าน IVF อันดับต้น ๆ ของประเทศแล้วยังเป็นผู้เชี่ยวชาญการรักษาความผิดปกติแต่กำเนิดของมดลูกซึ่งมีไม่กี่คนในโลก
